HTML or special characters (newlines) in event descriptions

Is there really no way I can have multiple lines of text in an event? I've tried through the UI and API, HTML is not rendered, newlines are not rendered ... this seems like a simple thing to add any meaningful detail to schedule events.

Hello there!

The event description body does save new line characters but the event itself does not render in the UI them at the moment. HTML is not supported in the description. We'll submit a product improvement request to consider in future iterations of our development.

Ah yes I see the event description renders newlines in the app but not the web.
